Dr. Miguel Angel Valbuena

The research of Dr. Cristian Svetina is focused on the development and application of Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV), soft and hard X-ray nonlinear science as well as design and realisation of beamlines, optics and instrumentation. He worked as staff scientist at EUV Free Electron Laser (FEL) FERMI in the Photon Analysis Delivery and Reduction System until 2016 when he received his PhD in nanotechnology from Università degli Studi di Trieste (Trieste, Italy). He then moved to Paul Scherrer Institut – PSI (Switzerland) and participated in the commissioning of the experimental station Bernina at Aramis: the SwissFEL’s hard X-ray branch. In 2018 CS become beamline scientist at Furka experimental station at the SwissFEL’s soft X-ray branch Athos designing the instrument and the Resonant Inelastic X-ray Spectrometer (RIXS) spectrometer coordinating the installations. He also designed the Athos’s on-line single shot SASE-spectrometer. In January 2023 CS joined IMDEA Nanoscience as Senior Scientist leading the X-WaveS group for the development and implementation of EUV and X-ray wave-mixing techniques on condensed matter systems. CS is co-founder of WavemiX: the network for the development of nonlinear science in the EUV and X-rays, and member of the executive board. He is also the main proposer of a prestigious Long Term Proposal at the European X-FEL (Hamburg – Germany) leading a large international team.
