Modules:

Module I: Research Impact

Goal: broadening scientific knowledge and develop techniques in IMDEA Nanoscience’s research programmes areas of knowledge.

Module II: Transferable Skills

Goals: step-up the training of research and transferable skills that researchers will need during this phase and future phases of their career. Core topics are: personal effectiveness (i.e. self-management, leadership), research governance and organisation (i.e. project management, grant writing), engagement, influence and impact and creativity (i.e. citizen’s science, open science, scientific communication) and innovation.

Module III: Innovation and entrepreneurship

Goals: break down barriers between academy and industry introducing the skills to communicate between innovation sectors, industry and academia. Topics in this module are: Patents, Industrial & Intellectual Property; Knowledge and Technology Transfer; Entrepreneurship and Exploitation of results; Pitching to innovators.

Module IV: Career Development

Goals: ensure that candidates are informed and guided to develop the necessary skills for the next steps in their career. Topics such as Networking & Mobility, Jobs beyond academy and CV writing and job interviews.

IMDEA Nanociencia is seeking postdoctoral researchers who are interested in applying to the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowships Call 2025.  

The MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships support researchers holding a PhD who wish to carry out their research activities abroad, acquire new skills and develop their careers.

This EU funded fellowship provides an allowance to cover living, mobility and family costs. In addition, the EU contributes to the research, training and networking costs of the fellow, as well as to the management and indirect costs of the project.

Fellowships may also include short-term secondments anywhere in the world during the fellowship. Researchers can receive additional support to carry out a placement of up to 6 months in a non-academic organisation based in an EU Member State or Horizon Europe Associated Country at the end of their fellowship

Hosting your MSCA PF at IMDEA Nanociencia

IMDEA Nanociencia is a Severo Ochoa Research Centre of Excellence. This is the highest national recognition for scientific excellence and is granted by the Spanish Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness. IMDEA Nano hosts several MSCA fellows and offers an attractive international working environment with more than 40 operative research laboratories. This international atmosphere is coupled with strong interdisciplinary research. Several hosting offers are available at IMDEA Nanociencia.

IMDEA Nanociencia will provide outstanding candidates with academic and administrative support for their proposal development.

Eligibility criteria

Researchers:

  • should have a PhD degree at the time of the deadline for applications. Applicants who have successfully defended their doctoral thesis but who have not yet formally been awarded the doctoral degree will also be considered eligible to apply.
  • must have a maximum of eight years experience in research, from the date of the award of their PhD degree, years of experience outside research and career breaks will not count towards the above maximum, nor will years of experience in research in third countries, for nationals or long-term residents of EU Member States or Horizon Europe Associated Countries who wish to reintegrate to Europe.
  • should comply with mobility rules: they must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Spain for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before the call deadline.

The researcher may be of any nationality and no age restrictions apply. The grant is awarded to the host organization. Only one proposal per individual researcher may be submitted to this call.

WHY?

The funding pilot supports researchers in generating impact and innovation opportunities from their research project, with the aim to encourage researchers to develop and implement activities that maximize the impact of their work and help bridge the gap towards commercialisation. The internal call welcomes applications from researchers to fund activities that increase the mid-term impact (societal, economic, environmental) and/or the technical and business viability of a research output.

WHO CAN APPLY?

IMDEA Nanociencia postdoctoral and pre-doctoral researchers can apply, as single applicants or teams of up to 3 people (incl. from different research groups). Please note that applications must be approved and signed-off by the principal investigator.

IMDEA Nanociencia is offering 10 PhD projects to predoctoral researchers interested in applying to la Caixa” INPhINIT incoming doctoral fellowships.  

The doctoral fellowship programme INPhINIT ”la Caixa” Foundation is devoted to attracting talented researchers, of any nationality, who wish to pursue doctoral studies in Spanish or Portuguese territory. Sponsored by ”la Caixa” Foundation, it is aimed at supporting the best scientific talent and fostering innovative and high-quality research in Spain and Portugal by recruiting outstanding international students and offering them an attractive and competitive environment for conducting research of excellence.

The doctoral INPhINIT fellowships offer a highly competitive salary and complementary opportunities for training on transferrable skills (in annual training sessions), temporary stays in industry, incentives upon completion of the thesis, among other elements that make these fellowships some of the most attractive and complete in Europe. The maximum duration of the fellowship is 4 years.

IMDEA Nanociencia is a Severo Ochoa Research Centre of Excellence and offers an attractive international working environment coupled with strong interdisciplinary research with over 50 operative research laboratories organised in following research programmes: P1 Nanotechnology for energy harvesting, P2 Quantum materials at the nanoscale, P3 Nanotechnology for healthcare, P4 Nanomagnetism for Information and Communication Technologies, P5 Ultrafast phenomena at the nanoscale and P6 Sustainable nanotechnologies and critical raw materials.

Who can apply?

  • Research experience: Candidates must be in the first four years of their research career and must not have previously obtained a PhD degree. Candidates must not have been enrolled in a doctoral programme prior to the start of the fellowship.

  • Academic records: Applicants must hold a higher education degree that makes them eligible to enrol in a doctoral programme in Spain when starting at their host institutions. The verification of the level of studies equivalent to those mentioned above will be carried out by the host university during the admission procedure. 
  • Mobility: Candidates must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Spain for more than twelve months in the three years immediately prior to the deadline for applications.

  • Level of English: Candidates must accredit an advanced level of English (B2 or higher).
