Dr. Milagros Castellanos is a biologist with a multidisciplinary background. In 2003, she worked in Prof. A. Zapata's group (UCM) where participated in the discovery of prognostic molecular markers in chronic lymphocytic leukemia of B-cells. In 2011, she obtained her Ph.D. from UAM under the guidance of Prof. M.G. Mateu (CBMSO). She studied the structural, thermal, and mechanical properties of viruses and their functional/nanotechnological implications. Next, Dr. Castellanos conducted a “Juan de la Cierva” postdoctoral research in Prof. V. Muñoz's lab (CNB-IMDEA Nanociencia) where she focused on the biophysical characterization of protein-DNA interactions, protein folding, and amyloids' structural-functional relationship. In 2018, Dr. Castellanos joined Dr. A. Somoza's group (IMDEA Nanociencia), where she contributed to various projects focused on developing state-of-the-art nanobiotools for the detection and treatment of diseases such as cancer, rare diseases, and COVID-19 infections. Since 2022, Dr. Castellanos has started her independent career at IMDEA Nanociencia “Nanotechnology for Health-Care” program.
